Transfer Station

Solid waste from Carleton County is received at the Southern Valley Transfer Station where it is re-loaded into larger trailers for shipment to landfills.

Waste Disposal
There are no landfills in the Valley Region. Solid waste is transported from a transfer station or transported directly to the landfills.

The Valley Solid Waste Commission has contractual arrangements for waste disposal with two New Brunswick landfill operators:

• The Valley Solid Waste Commission is responsible for shipping equal amounts of waste to each landfill (+/-5%).

• In 2010, the Valley Region generated and shipped 19,867 metric tonnes for final disposal to the landfill facilities (approximately 709 tractor trailer loads).

• Solid waste collected from residents and the Institutional / Commercial / Industrial sectors in Victoria County is transported directly to the landfill at COGERNO.

• In Carleton County, waste is first received at the Southern Valley Transfer Station for reloading into larger vehicles for transportation to the landfills.

• In addition to solid waste, the transfer station accepts clean, separated construction and demolition materials, scrap metals, corrugated cardboard and other recyclables.

• Contact the operator for additional information.
